The Eastern frame reads the car as the modern carriage — your standing and forward motion in the world — and the road as the proper order of advance. A car that leaves the road for water has traded the mapped way for the current: progress surrendered to forces that do not follow lanes. Calm water closing gently over the wheels reads toward a phase where striving must yield to timing; violent water toward affairs moving faster than your steering. The tradition's counsel is the ferryman's: in water, a carriage is cargo. Stop driving; start floating deliberately.
Few dream images say loss of control as precisely as this one: the car is the ego's vehicle — will, direction, the life you steer — and water is everything the ego does not govern. Driving into it, the dream stages the moment plans meet feeling and feeling wins. Panic versions (sinking, doors held shut by pressure) portray resistance; strangely calm versions, where the car glides under and light comes through the water, portray something closer to surrender the psyche is ready for.
