The dragon is among the most powerful of all dream symbols — in the East the supreme omen of fortune and rising power (龙), in the West the guardian of the treasure and the Shadow to be faced, in Ibn Sirin's tradition a great and formidable power.
Three readings
In 周公解梦 the dragon (龙) is the most auspicious of all symbols — imperial power, ascent, and 飞黄腾达, the sudden soaring of one's fortune. To see a dragon rise is read as a leap in station or a great opportunity approaching; to ride one, as fortune firmly in hand. Few dreams are read as more favorable in the Chinese tradition.
Chinese dream interpretation (周公解梦), explained →Jung read the dragon as the guardian at the mouth of the cave — the fearsome shape the unconscious takes over the treasure it protects, which is the Self. To face the dragon is the hero's central ordeal; to slay or befriend it wins the gold of new consciousness. It can also be the devouring unconscious one must not be swallowed by.
