A reading for meaning, not prophecy
A funeral is read as an ending honoured — in the East a passage and, paradoxically, renewal (新生), in the West the formal closing of a chapter of the self, in Ibn Sirin's tradition a matter concluded or a state changed.
Three readings
周公解梦 reads the funeral as a passage marked — and, like death, often paradoxically auspicious: an old chapter laid to rest so a new one can begin. To attend one is read as closure given its due, sometimes fortune turning after.
Jung would read the funeral as the formal mourning of a part of yourself that has died — a role, a relationship, an old identity. The ritual is the psyche giving an ending its weight, so you can move on rather than carry it unburied.
Ibn Sirin read the funeral and burial as a matter concluded or a change of state — sometimes the settling of an affair, sometimes a caution toward repentance and remembrance. Framed as meaning: what are you laying to rest so you can go on?
Read as an ending honoured — a chapter, role, or relationship being laid to rest so something new can begin. Like death dreams, it is rarely literal; 周公解梦 even reads it as paradoxically auspicious.
Usually read as the mourning of an old identity or way of being you've outgrown — the psyche giving an ending its weight so you can move on. A threshold, not a forecast.
