Dreaming about the tongue
A reading for meaning, not prophecy
The tongue is read as speech and its power — in the East words and the fortune they make or break (舌), in the West self-expression and the power (and danger) of what you say, in Ibn Sirin's tradition one's speech, argument, or a sharp word.

Three readings
In Chinese tradition · 周公解梦 · 舌
周公解梦 reads the tongue as 舌 — speech and the disputes or bonds it creates; a fluent tongue marks persuasion and good relations, a bitten one words regretted or a quarrel. Fortune, the tradition warns, often turns on what is said.
In Western psychology · Jungian
Jung would read the tongue as self-expression — the power to speak your truth, or the wound of words that cut. Being unable to speak marks a silencing, a truth you cannot voice; a sharp tongue, aggression finding an edge.
In Islam · Ibn Sirin
Ibn Sirin read the tongue as one's speech, argument, and eloquence — a strong tongue power in speech and prevailing in a matter, an injured one harm through words or a dispute. Framed as meaning: what are your words building, or breaking?
Common variations
- biting your tongue
- unable to speak
- a swollen tongue
- losing your voice
